Question:
My wife was diagnosed last year with cutaneous SLE, but lately she has been
plagued with symptoms that appear to suggest systemic SLE. She has been
experiencing asthma-like symptoms accompanied by deep coughs. She describes
a sharp radiating pain in her chest (primarily on one side) that sometimes
occurs during the cough. My dilemma is that my wife has completely sworn off conventional medicine
and refuses to see a doctor or any other health care professional, including
eastern medicine. There are primarily two reasons for this. In addition to
Lupus, my wife has been suffering for years with severe MCS (multiple
chemical sensitivity) and has had a long string of bad experiences over many
years with doctors that thought she was nuts when she told them about
symptoms resulting from chemical exposure, and they typcially sent her away
with anti-depressants, rather than acknowledging her concerns and treating
the real health issues. Second, she has severe reactions when she visits a
doctor's office and is bombarded by perfumes and offensive deodorizers and
medicinal substances and cannot tolerate the synthetic drugs that are
typically prescribed. For example, she had severe negative reactions to
Plaquenil and has given up on seeing a doctor or taking medication ever
since. She's convinced that there is nothing a doctor can do except make her
feel worst. I don't think it's possible for her to feel worst.
My wife is depressed and feeling hopeless and simply wants to die. She is in
constant joint pain, lately has trouble breathing, constantly suffers from
"brain fog" and mini seizures, and terrible mood swings. She's isolated herself from family
and friends and the only thing I've been able to do is get her to take
natural vitamins and homeopathic remedies. I can't even convince her to go
to an acupunturist, which has helped her in the past. She's afraid she'll be
bombarded by perfumes and other offenses that will make her feel worst. My
wife is 95% homebound.
Answer:
I do know I have a niece that has severe allergies to many things and
like your wife, reacts sometimes violently to things in the environment,
but not as badly as your wife seems to do. I am sorry for that.
I am concerned though about this pain she is experiencing in her chest.
It sounds very much to me like she is having some fluid build up and if
this is NOT attended to, can end up with your wife having more trouble
breathing, and a trip to the ER. I am serious here. I know she doesn't
want no part of this but it can be many many thing that are causeing
this, but most all of those things lead to one thing, and that is lack
of oxygen and she will either have more brain lapes or pass out. Does she also know that after testing for this stuff there is
such a thing as desentization. Or trying to get the body to NOT have
such extreme reactions to such and such chemicals. I am not really
into that, but I do know my niece went the Cleveland and they have
helped her eliminate a lot of things for her. Esp products WE all take
for granted to be NOT harmful...
If she is taking a product called Moducare, I also suggest you call that
natural nutritionist and tell her she is having trouble breathing here.
THis product, although I have no clue what it is, may not be what she
needs right now.
