Question:
Yesterday I spoke with a holistic consultation regarding several
medical problems. Normally, I would not have done so. However, last
week on television, there was a story about more doctors wanting to
learn about it. Anyway, this young man said that he could help me
with my bronchial asthma. He also said that I would continue with
the medications the doctor gave me that his treatment will not
interfer with the prescriptions I take.
I have so many medical problems now that I am to the point that I
will try just about anything within reason. If I don't, I won't be
around much longer. So, you see, I haven't much to lose by giving it
a try. I do plan to visit my MD to let him check me over during this
period, if I do go ahead with it.Have any of you tried this type of help?
Answer:
I have worked with holistic practitioners for asthma with mixed results.
I do recommend looking into it, especially if you find a good person who
seems to know what they're doing. At varying times I've had relief from acupuncture, herbal supplements, and
an experimental treatment called EPD, which are shots administered every
other month. I have a holistically oriented MD who I've worked with -- I
like the fact that she is a medical doctor, because she can prescribe
traditional meds along with anything else.
I have, however, made a swing back to convential asthma treatment. For
much of the "holistic" treatments I found that the adjustment to my
lifestyle (in terms of foods, removal of allergens, etc.) was too
intensive for me to be successful at consistently. So, now I do a
combination of things. I also find that, for me, exercise is a key. The
deep breathing helps me relax, since stress is a big factor in my asthma,
eliminate toxins, keeps me in shape, and helps me cope overall enormously
from an emotional standpoint.
