Question:
I have been suffering from cough variant asthma for decades. My
doctors said allergy makes you wheeze if your wind pipe
contracts but makes you cough if your wind pipe expand. My
cough episode usually lasts for two weeks. The main symptoms
are scratchy throat and lots of white mucous. Antihistamine
Chlorpheniramine Maleate and cough syrup made of dried ivy leaf
extract help me a lot. The former helps me to sleep so that I
can forget my itching throat and the latter helps me to clear my
wind pipe of mucous. I am not worrying about the syrup because
it is made of natural herbal. Can anyone tell me the side
effects when taking Chlorpheniramine Maleate frequently? Where
I can find information about antihistamine? What is peak-flow readings?
Answer:
What makes you think that you do not have to worry about possible
hazards form the herbal remedy? Just because the people selling the
stuff do not tell you about side effects and contraindications does
not mean that they do not exist. Knowing exactly what is in a herbal medication is very important as
many herbals are not a good idea for people with asthma. "Keep looking below surface appearances. Don't shrink
from doing so (just) because you might not like what
you find."
