Question:
I had a endoscopic sinus surgery (fess) last
week. I' now recovering. I have been under surgery because i have asthma
and the sinus-infection-throath-wheezing-troubles were growing bigger each
week. Could anyone tell me how long they needed to recover and when they
were able to work again? (i'm home for six days now)
Could anyone tell me if the surgery improved their asthma?
I already saw the www.sinus.com It's realy worth visiting, lots of
interesting information!
Answer:
I am also asthmatic and had FESS almost two years ago. I felt immediate
relief, breathing through my nose for the first time in years. I went
back to work after a week but was not fully "myself" for a few weeks after
that. I remember going back to aerobics six weeks after surgery. On the
other hand, my asthma did not improve at all. I had hoped that I would
receive some secondary benefit from having the sinuses cleaned out, but it
was not to be. I'm on low doses of Nasacort, Flovent, and Serevent every
day, but they keep all my symptoms under control most of the time. I also wanted to correct the website address: http://www.sinuses.com.
Unfortunately Proctor and Gamble has sinus.com, but they aren't doing
anything with it.
It is important to realize that chronic sinusitis affects at least 1 in 6
people and 70% of them will have asthma. Wegener's granulomatosis is a
very rare disease, and it is extremely unlikely that a patient with
sinusitis will have it.
